The Maritime Person of the Year Gala
Join us as we celebrate the 91st Maritime Person of the Year, hosted by the Propeller Club of New Orleans, honoring Governor Jeff Landry for his exceptional leadership and support of Louisiana’s maritime industry.
Governor Landry was selected as this year’s honoree in recognition of his significant contributions to advancing maritime policy and infrastructure, including:
- Establishing the first Governor’s Maritime Task Force since Governor Edwin Edwards’ final term in 1992 through the creation of the Task Force on Navigation and Safety within the newly formed Louisiana Ports, Waterways & Investment Commission.
- Allocating $700,000 in state funding via the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LDOTD) to upgrade NOAA’s Physical Oceanographic Real-Time System (PORTS) by installing advanced air gap sensors on all bridges crossing the Mississippi River Ship Channel.
- Supporting an economic impact study funded by LDOTD to highlight the vital financial significance of the Mississippi River, one of the nation’s most important natural resources.
