Mentorship Program

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

This program was established to provide mentorship to the students who are members of the International Propeller Club’s Student Ports. We recognize the need to provide support to students who are choosing a career in maritime to bridge the gap between college and their career.

We know that each student’s career journey is unique to them so we have established a program that will allow for mentorship focused on and driven by the individual’s needs.

PROGRAM GOALS

  • Help guide students towards better understanding what THEY want to do with their career.
  • Provide students with a broader understanding of the industry and opportunities within.
  • Help students build their professional network.
  • Share experience to support students as they grow their professional self.

ELIGIBILITY

Mentees must be a member in good standing at one of the International Propeller Club’s recognized Student Ports. The Mentorship Program will be open to All Students, however priority for placement will be given to students entering their Junior or Senior year. If attending a Technical College with a 2-year Program, priority is given to students entering their second year of school. Additionally, all Mentees must Register as a member of a Student Port through this link

Mentors must be members in good standing of their local Propeller Club Port. This means you are registered with a Port and are current with dues.

TIME COMMITMENT

This program will run in alignment with a school year (September – April) and will consist of 4 touchpoints between Mentors & Mentees. The program allows for flexibility for the Mentorships to schedule a date and time that works best for them during a specific week period.

It is expected that both parties prioritize these meeting; should a work or life obligation arise, work to reschedule as soon as possible.

Additionally, the International Propeller Club will host mandatory meetings for Mentors and another for Mentees at the beginning of the program, September 2025. These sessions will be designed to support both in making the most out of the program.

MENTORSHIP CONNECTIONS

The Mentor and Mentee pairings will be strategic and have emphasis on the career goals of the Mentee. Meetings are meant to be virtual (video) or by phone. Each mentorship will choose how they plan to connect.
