The International Propeller Club (IPC) has committees to assist in meeting the goals of the IPC and its chartered ports. Each committee will be given specific goals. Recommendations made by the Committee shall be submitted to the Board for approval.
The President shall be a member ex-officio of all committees. The Executive Vice President or Associate Executive Director shall be an ex-officio member of each standing committee. A Board liaison will be appointed to each committee as an ex-officio member of each standing committee. The Board liaison may also serve as a committee chair. All other members will be members of IPC.
Every committee shall have a chair appointed by the President. The role of the chair is to select committee members, guide the committee to accomplish their goals through assigning tasks, planning and leading meetings and monitor the group’s progress. The chair shall act as the liaison between the committee, the Board liaison and the staff liaisons. Every Chair will complete a quarterly report to be given to the Board and staff liaisons as a progress report or recommendations to be made to the Board of Directors.
Budget and Finance Committee:
Duties: Provide oversight of the financial functions of the IPC and shall be responsible for annual budget formulation, review of budget execution, tax and other reporting and initiation of the annual financial review by a CPA.
Membership: Chaired by the treasurer and not less than three members including the First Vice-President
Goals:
- Consistent monitoring of the IPC financial status.
- Preparation of budget, projections and monthly financial reports.
- Provide guidance on the Port Membership Manual sections regarding the port’s financial responsibilities to the IPC.
Membership Development Committee:
Duties: Responsible for membership development initiatives and chartering new member ports in addition to providing resources for Ports. This committee will be divided into four working groups. Each section will have a chair, a staff liaison, a board liaison and at least 3 members.
New Port Development U.S. Goals:
- Identify opportunities of chartering or reactivating additional ports, provide support, encouragement and other resources
- Assist in guidelines for starting or reactivating a Port
New Port Development International:
Goals:
- Identify opportunities of chartering or reactivating additional ports, provide support, encouragement and other resources
- Assist in guidelines for starting or reactivating a Port
Port Operations and Resources
Members – Should consist of a wide selection of various size Ports as well as industries within the maritime community
Goals:
- Provide guidance on the development of the Port Operations Manual with input from other working committees.
- Identify additional value-added benefits to the membership, i.e. affinity programs.
- Develop guidelines for a successful Port.
- Assist in developing surveys and methods to continue to find out what member benefits and services are needed.
- Provide resources to increase and retain membership in the Ports.
Students
Chaired by the Vice President of Student Ports
Goals:
- Provide support to Student Ports.
- Investigate other educational institutions offering maritime programs to introduce them to the IPC.
- Introduce alumni associations and graduating students from student Ports to our free first year membership in Ports or at large membership in IPC.
- Provide a platform for mentoring students in the maritime industry.
- Invite all Student Port members to a private Linkedin group to start discussions
Women in the Maritime Industry
Goals:
- Provide a platform for mentoring, educating and recruiting women in the maritime industry.
- Invite all female members to a private Linkedin group.
Communications Committee:
Duties: Recommend and implement methods of communication and programs of public relations which will, in its judgment, best promote the maritime and allied industries and the purposes and objectives of the national headquarters and its Ports. This includes traditional press, IPC website, and social media.
Goals:
- Increase the name recognition of IPC.
- Increase the awareness by individuals in the maritime industry of the activities of IPC to promote the maritime industry.
- Develop communications strategy using traditional press, the IPC website, and social media to achieve the goals established by the Committee.
- Identify emerging technologies to help achieve the goals established by the Committee.
- Support a Website Users Group to continue to provide assistance in the defining the purpose, design and implementation of a website for Ports.
- Examine new ways to create communities within IPC for leaders and members across the world to share information between Ports and National Headquarters.
General Convention Committee:
Duties: Shall have full charge of all arrangements for the International Convention subject to consultation with and approval by the Executive Committee.
Membership: To be decided by Host Port in conjunction with the Washington, D.C. Port
Goals:
- Responsible for all logistics of the meeting to include hotel, room set ups, food selections, tours.
- Provide financial reports of the conference to IPC.
- Coordinate with the Maritime Promotion Committee for panel participants and theme of the Convention.
Salute to Congress Committee:
Duties: Shall have full charge of all arrangements for the Salute to Congress event, subject to consultation with and approval by the Executive Committee.
Goals:
- Responsible recommending the honoree for the Salute to Congress.
- Helping to secure sponsors for the event.
- Provide financial reports of the event to IPC.
Education Committee
Duties: The education committee is responsible for the educational programs and other educational opportunities to provide to members and the maritime community at large
Goals:
- Develop programing for maritime education and training for Elementary schools (such as Adopt-a-Ship) and Secondary schools. This may include topics such as lifesaving, safety, logistics, domestic and international shipping, port operations, welding and other industrial skills, and other educational programming designed to foster the knowledge or skills needed to enter the maritime industry.
- Provide assistance helping schools develop the training materials to accomplish the goals of this Committee.
- Encouraging local Clubs to provide financial assistance for training materials, maritime field trips, and other maritime educational initiatives
- Develop continuing-education and training webinar programs for Port leaders and members of the IPC.
Maritime Promotion Committee (was Positions and Resolutions Committee)
Duties:
- Shall advise the President, the board of Directors and staff on matters of broad, general policy for the maritime industry.
- Develop programs to be presented at the Annual Conference to be conducted in conjunction with the International Convention of the International Propeller Club. This conference may be a virtual conference and include an electronic publication with papers prepared by maritime industry participants.
- Shall consider and recommend appropriate positions to be taken by the IPC in implementation of its objectives. Such positions may include positions on existing or proposed legislation or regulations; shall represent matters of major significance to the maritime industry and allied industries; and shall include suggested action to be taken by the Officers, Committees, Ports and Members.
- Provide, at least quarterly, reports to headquarters regarding maritime policy and other maritime transportation issues that can be shared in our newsletter and social media.
- Recommend and assist in initiatives that the IPC can take to promote the maritime industry.
- To review, as needed, the existing resolutions to either amend or dissolve the resolution.
The Maritime Promotion Committee shall have 2 Subcommittees – Unites States and International.
Subcommittee on Maritime Promotion – United States
Goals
- Provide, at least quarterly, reports to headquarters regarding U.S. maritime policy and other maritime transportation issues that can be shared in our newsletter and social media.
- Recommend and assist in initiatives that the IPC can take to promote the maritime industry in the United States.
- Identify Strategic Partners that can assist IPC in achieving its U.S. maritime promotional goals.
Subcommittee on Maritime Promotion – International
Goals
- Provide, at least quarterly, reports to headquarters regarding international maritime policy and other international maritime transportation issues that can be shared in our newsletter and social media.
- Recommend and assist in initiatives that the IPC can take to promote the International maritime industry.
- Identify Strategic Partners that can assist IPC in achieving its international maritime promotional goals.
Awards Committee
Duties: Responsible for selecting the International Port of the Year, International Propeller Club Member of the Year, and International Propeller Club Maritime Person of the Year from nominees submitted, and other awards as may be appropriate. Also responsible for determining whether a Lifetime Achievement Award should be presented.
Goals:
- Select award recipients for the Annual Conference no later than 30 days prior to the conference.
- Review existing award programs and provide criteria for these awards.
- Develop a nominations form.
- Decide if an additional award should be given as a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Bylaws Committee
Duties: Consider all proposed amendments to the Bylaws
Goals:
- Review and consider, as needed, any proposed amendments to the Bylaws
Sponsorship and Financial Resources Committee
Duties: This committee is responsible for review and modification of the current sponsorship opportunities and growing list of potential sponsors as well as other revenue generating activities that they may recommend.
Goals: - Review current sponsorship opportunities and benefits and provide modifications to include website sponsorship
- Gather a list of current sponsors and provide potential new sponsors to attract
- Develop a marketing plan to attract sponsors
- Develop other initiatives that will generate income for the IPC.
Past Presidents Committee
Duties: The institutional knowledge and experience of the members of the International Past Presidents Committee gained through their service as International Officers and through prior experience will serve as a resource for the International Officers, the Board of Directors and the Port Presidents. In addition to service on the Board of Directors, the International Past Presidents Committee may be assigned such tasks and responsibilities as the International President, or the Board of Directors may assign.
